Buck-Taylor Hails Work of Local Pre-School Center
April 3, 2014NEW MILFORD – State Rep. Cecilia Buck-Taylor this week helped The Children’s Center of New Milford celebrate 40 years of service to the community. Buck-Taylor, who serves the 67th General Assembly District, delivered a special citation from the General Assembly to the center’s staff and students. The Children’s Center opened its doors in September 1971 beginning with only a handful of children in a donated space and a budget of only a few thousand dollars.
Since then, The Center has grown into a model of quality early childhood education serving more than 100 children every year. Buck-Taylor highlighted the Center’s record of providing opportunities to those who are unable to afford tuition, and that it was the first state-funded preschool in Connecticut to receive National Accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The center has maintained its NAEYC accreditation since 1986, and during its most recent evaluation earned perfect scores on the organization’s rigorous standards.
